Blogging: Capture Your Reader’s Attention

Blogging is a massive industry and these days there are over 600 million blogs in the world. Studies have shown that you only have seconds to capture someone’s attention and with all that competition, how do you stand out?

It’s simple really. People want to read good content. They want to be entertained or they want to learn something.

What is Blogging?

Blogging is such a strange word, it evolved from web-server’s log file when blogs emerged in the mid-1990s. If you don’t already know, a blog is a website or page on a website where information is shared in a conversational tone. While Blogging is a collection of skills that a person (blogger) needs to write and run a blog.

Who Can Start a Blog?

Anyone can start a blog and share their thoughts on any topic from the Industrial Revolution to Game of Thrones. Your imagination is the only limit. Blogs can make you famous or let you stay anonymous by writing under a pseudonym.

Time Capsule

In essence, a blog is a time capsule of whatever you want to share with the world. The Internet has made it possible to share your life with total strangers all over the world where they can learn about your life and who you are. With a blog, you can connect to friends and strangers anytime, anywhere.

Reasons People Start a Blog

These are a few possible reasons that people start a blog:

  • To get attention
  • As a full-time job
  • As self-expression
  • To sell products
  • To sell affiliate products
  • To share their experiences
  • To help others
  • To make money

Businesses

Most businesses have a blog or collection of articles to advertise their services or products and boost their online profile. In fact, a lot of blogs are sales funnels.  They have a product or service to sell you and that is the main focus of the blog post, showcasing their product.  Business blogs are designed to create customer connections and increase the company’s visibility.

Author Blogging

As an author, I don’t really follow the rules that business bloggers follow. They tell you to pick a niche and narrow it down as much as you can. That may work for businesses, but I am blogging to promote my book not sell a product. Although technically my book is a product.

Blog 52

This is my 52nd blog so I have officially been blogging for a full year. I blog about my travels, favorite books or movies, stress, creativity, or whatever else I feel like writing about. No, my blog is not popular but that’s okay because writing it is fun and I can tell that my writing has improved from a year ago (read the blog post below and you’ll see what I mean). I consider it a writing exercise. 

Final Thoughts
