My First Blog

Written by Frankie Cameron

Hello, world. This is my first blog. Not the first one I have ever read, but the first I have written. I must admit I am a little nervous since I am an introvert. It is hard for me to put myself out into the world, but I have thrown caution to the wind, pushed past the fear and joined the blogging community.

I am a writer. If you like dystopian stories, you have come to the write place. (Yes, I know I used the wrong right). Hollow Edge, my first novel will publish early 2021. I won’t count the other half-dozen incomplete novels I’ve started, then deleted.

My writing group is also publishing a compilation Nineteen Tales of COVID-19 set for a fall 2020 debut.

It has taken four long years to reach this point. I discovered that writing is hard. Who knew? I took so many courses on character, plot, themes, conflict, dialogue and the list goes on. I wrote, rewrote, edited, then rewrote after each course. My day job as an editor also takes time away from my writing life. (It is much easier to find other people’s mistakes than find my own.)

My writing group has been such a blessing. They have helped me so much to learn and grow as an author. Encouraging me to find my voice. This week my novel goes out to beta readers. Fingers crossed it goes well.

My daughter has been my biggest cheerleader. She believed in me before I believed in myself.

Am I a published author?

Yes, my first published piece appeared in the weekly Millbrook Times, November 2002. My first of several articles on my daughter’s hockey team. The stories described the kids like NHL players playing in the big leagues instead of minor hockey at the local arena. All writing counts, right?

Is this blog only going to talk about writing?

No, it is not. I promise not to fill your inbox with constant promotions.

What am I going to blog about?

I will blog about travelling, sports (hockey fan), movies, writing and the occasional pug story. I will also post photos from my travels. I will not post any political or social commentary.

Until next time

Frankie
